Why Do I Work with An Integrative Health Practitioner?

Whether you’re new to the TSC or have been here since the beginning, you know I speak a lot about working with Taylor Sappington who is the owner of Taylored Wellbeing. I came across Taylor through a mutual friend who was struggling with her own set of gut health issues and thought to myself, maybe this Taylor could help me with what I feel like I am struggling with. I do not want to give away the ending, but I hit the jackpot with being able to work with this Taylor.

For those that do not know and/or need a little refresh, Summer of 2015, was my own personal health hell as I was:

  • In and out of the hospital

  • Had 6 operations

    • 2 colonoscopies

    • 3 endoscopies

    • 1 laparoscopy

  • 1 weeklong hospital stay

  • 2 trips to the ER via ambulance

  • 1 fainting session where hit my head on my dining room table and ended up back in the ER

  • Many IVs/ paid medications / antibiotics

  • Various different healthcare professionals trying to manage my pain and diagnose me

Amongst the extreme pains, multiple misdiagnoses, and all the fun trips to the hospitals, I was being told the following:

  • “We can’t figure out what is wrong with you, but here’s some prescriptions to help the pain”.

  • “I know you’re only 23 and we didn’t see anything during the laparoscopy, but we recommend you get a hysterectomy”.

  • “You just have really bad IBS”.

  • “The two softball sized ulcers are now gone but there is a lot of irritation and inflammation in you GI track. We recommend being careful with foods”.

  • “You’re making up the pain as I can’t draw a conclusion to what is causing it”.

Fast forward to Fall 2017 when I was still struggling with brain fog, inflammation, extreme pains in my body, increased anxiety, and much more, I reached, or my body reached its breaking point after filling my tummy up on all the yummy Thanksgiving foods (#ThatsSoCeliac)! Everyone thought I had flu or possibly had a little too much red wine, but I knew what was happening to my body was not related to either of those. I spent a decent amount of my time for the rest of our Thanksgiving vacation in the bathroom and thank goodness my body allowed me 12 hours of “okay-ness” for the 4-5-hour drive back home. That night I went to bed thinking I would feel even better in the morning… PLOT TWIST! My body had other ideas like feeling like someone dropped a burning match down my throat and it was just sitting in my stomach and my body revolting anything even water. I ended up going to the ER because I couldn’t even stand up straight and I was back in the same situation I was in during the Summer of 2015 – nobody was listening to me (a story for another day and I promise I will share it). Eventually in Jan 2018, I found a specialist that wanted to test me for Chron’s and Celiac, which we found out I 100% had Celiac.

Now why did I just make you read all of that? Well if you did not notice I kept talking about how nobody was listening to me and/or not trying to dig deeper into what was going on with my body. Everyone wanted to put a Band-Aid on my symptoms with prescriptions and/or telling me I was crazy. Taylor Sappington was the first person to actually stop and listen to me – she made me feel heard and seen even after my diagnosis as I was still struggling with brain fog, pain, gut issues, etc.….

Taylor’s approach to wholistic health is one I very much vibe with and I know not everyone is going to vibe with what I vibe with. However, Taylor has legitimately changed my life for the better through her practice and I am so thankful for that. Celiac disease does a lot more damage to our body than you would realize, which I am continuing to learn by having Taylor guide me through tests, protocols, and detoxes. I am healing through whole foods, vitamins, and supplements instead of prescription bottles and “Band-Aid” fixes.

More to come on in the upcoming weeks about my specific journey with Taylor Sappington!

Note: I think modern medicine has done and will do amazing things, especially with emergency surgeries/operations that save people’s lives, cancer, and pregnancy procedures, etc.…, so I am not knocking it or saying it should not be utilized because it should be. However, for me in regard to optimizing my body and its health on a daily basis, I stay away from it due to my experiences. I have learned that approaching things from a wholistic standpoint best suits my body for the everyday life care.
